Primary Duties and Responsibilities

As an Administrative Assistant II in Ophthalmology's Retina clinic in Westwood, you will provide administrative support to our patients and providers. You will be the first point of contact for patients upon arrival and work closely with clinical staff to ensure patients' needs are met. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Check-in/out patients
  • Verify insurance information and collect co-payments
  • Schedule appointments
  • Obtain prior authorizations and/or referrals
  • Reply to patient messages and triage calls

Salary Range: $24.57-34.87 Hourly

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Knowledge of ophthalmic terminology, medications, and equipment.
  • Ability to act as liaison between physician and patients and their families, using good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skill in operating computer terminal for processing and accessing patient data.
  • Skill in establishing, coordinating and maintaining patient and administrative files.
  • Typing skills to prepare correspondence with speed/accuracy.
  • Skill in speaking clearly, distinctly, and courteously using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to obtain and convey information to both physicians and patients and other individuals at various organizational levels.
  • Skill in writing grammatically correct routine medical and business correspondence.
  • Skill in setting priorities which accurately reflect relative importance of job responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently and follow through with assignments with minimal (or no) direction from supervisor.
  • Ability to coordinate activities to guarantee timely completion of teamwork (usually under high pressure).
  • Ability to perform effectively and diligently under fluctuating workload and high pressure situations and deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with other staff members, physicians and administrators.
  • Ability to maintain a friendly, caring demeanor with patients, most of whom are very fearful and stressed.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to operate word processing function/memory of computer/type-writer for forms and consents.
