Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Join our cutting-edge research team in the Division of Experimental Radiation Oncology as a Laboratory Support Specialist. Under the guidance of the Principal Investigator, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our research on cancer stem cells.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct tissue cell culture, DNA cloning, and transfection.
  • Perform protein and nucleic acid extraction, purification, and characterization.
  • Utilize qRT-PCR, Western analysis, UV spectrometry, flow cytometry, and 2D gel electrophoresis techniques.
  • Assist with animal experiments and prepare data for publication and grant proposals.
  • Order supplies and equipment, maintain equipment, and ensure general lab upkeep.
  • Analyze research data and contribute to scientific discoveries.

Salary: $28.88 - $46.46/hour

Job Qualifications

Required: 

  • Demonstrated experience in cell biology, microbiology, and molecular biology.
  • Ability to keep inventory of supplies and place orders as needed.
  • Demonstrated skill in RT-PCR's, flow cytometry, and immunological and molecular biology assays.
  • Skill in sterile technique and of maintaining cells in tissue culture.
  • Basic molecular biological skills, e.g. Southern, Northern, Western and PCR, working with DNA, RNA, and proteins.
  • Skill in using micropipettors, microscopes, centrifuges, scintillation counter, CO2 incubators, waterbaths, spectrophotometer, pH meter, autoclaves, flow cytometer.
  • Knowledge of lab safety procedures for handling and disposing of biohazardous waste
  • A Bachelors Degree in Biology or similar.
Preferred:
  • Skill in conducting literature search and retrievals, both through use of bioscience library and on-line service.
  • Ability to prepare data for publication and grant applications
  • Ability to troubleshoot laboratory equipment malfunctions and arrange for service if needed
