Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Crump Institute is seeking to a hire a highly skilled and dedicated Staff Research Associate III to join our esteemed team. In this role, the selected candidate will demonstrate outstanding expertise in in vivo techniques, focusing on the advancement of preclinical disease models within the field of oncology. These models encompass a diverse array, such as xenografts, orthotopic placements, and patient-derived xenografts (PDX). You will take on a central role in the initiation, supervision, and management of experimental rodent models. This includes executing delicate survival surgeries and assuming comprehensive responsibility for all facets of animal studies, encompassing precise dose administration of therapeutic agents as well as radioactive compounds. A critical aspect of this position involves conducting meticulous model characterization assays. These assays encompass a spectrum of techniques, ranging from advanced histopathological analyses utilizing immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence, to intricate autoradiography, flow cytometry, and ELISA procedures. Furthermore, the incumbent will collaborate closely with the imaging center to proficiently execute preclinical imaging studies utilizing techniques such as PET, SPECT, CT, and Optical imaging. In addition to the scientific responsibilities, the incumbent will play an integral role in maintaining the operational flow of the laboratory. This includes managing the procurement and consumption of laboratory supplies, overseeing and coordinating the schedules of work-study students, and upkeeping and submitting updates for animal care protocols and radiation usage authorization.

Target annual rate: $66,440-$106,843



Job Qualifications

Required: 

  • Basic understanding of biology, animal physiology, cancer biology, and/or molecular imaging research.
  • Skilled with various preclinical models of disease
  • Subcutaneous xenograft/Orthotopic tumors
  • Patient-Derived xenografts
  • Adoptive cell transfer models
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of faculty, staff, postdocs, and students about basic imaging theory, techniques, and protocols.
  • Experienced in working with small animals such as mice and rats
  • Handling, Injections, Dissections
  • General physiology and maintenance
  • Advanced surgical skills highly desirable
  • Ability to learn pre-clinical imaging systems.
  • Ability to use and/or learn imaging software for data analysis
  • Skilled at writing reports and working with spreadsheets, databases, and email.
  • Ability to keep laboratory space clean, safe and organized; ability to order and maintain imaging and associated equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal supervision.

Preferred: 

  • Experience handling radioactive samples and knowledge of Radiation Safety requirements.
  • Ability to learn ex vivo assays including autoradiography
  • Experience with in vitro binding assays, immunohistochemistry, and/or flow cytometry
  • Ability to process tissues for downstream in vitro or ex vivo assays
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal supervision.
