Working closely with the Director of Community Perioperative Nursing and Operations, you will be responsible for assisting with clinical management and administrative coordination of the GI/Medical Procedure unit (MPU) and/or Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). The position is a combination of clinical (direct care) and administrative responsibilities. This role requires outstanding communication and critical thinking skills, strong clinical background and knowledge to assist in orienting and of training staff to perform duties. You will orient, supervise, and evaluate registered nurses, surgical processing instrument technicians, GI techs, and medical assistants. Other major duties include, but are not limited to, overseeing the hiring, training, and evaluation of staff, developing policy and procedure, and ensuring that sterilization practices are compliant with State, Federal, AAAHC, and Joint Commission laws/guidelines.
This role requires travel within Community MPUs/ASCs at UCLA Health.
Salary Range: $124,600 - $289,400 Annual

Qualified candidates will possess:
- Current, active California Registered Nurse License
- Current BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BSN required, MSN preferred
- Minimum of 3 years management/supervisory experience
- Skill in reading and interpreting comprehensive medical procedures and making them easily understood by patients and families with appropriate vocabulary.
- Skill in working independently to complete multiple complex tasks with rapid changes in priorities.
- Demonstrates strong organizational and supervisory skills to facilitate an extremely busy and demanding procedural environment.
- Ability to work efficiently and calmly under pressure.
- Ability to supervise and maintain effective working relationships with tact and sensitivity at all levels.
- Ability to deal effectively with patients, physicians, technicians, and other staff members.
- Ability to serve as a lead person to patients, physicians, technicians and staff members.
- Demonstrates ability to create and maintain professional, cooperative and respectful working relationships with staff members, physicians, technicians, patients and all other UCLA staff.
- Experience with patient electronic medical record.
- Skill in setting and recognizing priorities. Ability to react and lead effectively in medical emergencies and in emergency evacuations.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with large variety of individuals, including staff members, physicians and patients.
- Willingness to provide individualized services to patients.
- Ability to work overtime when necessary and provide back up support in times of absences, vacations, etc.
- Ability to work independently, organize, direct, coordinate and evaluate effectively in support of the ASC and/or Endoscopy area/GI Lab Medical Procedure Unit’s objectives and goals.
- Knowledgeable in pharmacology/drug interactions/side effects.
- PC proficiency in a Windows environment and Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, E-mail.
- Experienced in directing, teaching and supervising nursing/medical personnel.
- Ability to travel between the various procedure units in the Community when necessary.
- Ability to assist physicians in performing procedures in the Endoscopy area/GI Lab Medical Procedure Unit and/or ASC practicing medical and surgical asepsis at all times.
- Demonstrate knowledge in all areas of care specific to endoscopy area/GI Medical Procedure Unit and/or ASC, including conscious sedation. Knowledge of cardiac monitoring and ability to identify dysrhythmias.
