Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Faculty Practice Group (FPG) Payroll Department is seeking an experienced Payroll Director to oversee payroll operations for approximately 5,000 employees. The ideal incumbent will manage the production of both bi-weekly and monthly payroll cycles for submission, ensuring accurate compensation for each employee. The role involves supervising, training, and supporting the FPG payroll team, while providing exceptional customer service to all employees. Additionally, the Payroll Director will be responsible for improving and maintaining key systems that link FPG departments with accounting, including the Time and Attendance System, Payroll Processing System, Query Database, and working with the Central Resource Unit. Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead payroll production and ensure timely and accurate payroll processing for all employees
  • Supervise and mentor payroll department staff, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment
  • Maintain and enhance payroll-related systems, including Time and Attendance, Payroll Processing, and reporting tools
  • Develop, update, maintain and ensure adherence to payroll policies and procedures, internal controls, and compliance with collective bargaining agreements
  • Knowledgeable about collective bargaining agreements and employee representation
  • Ability to plan and implement new systems

Salary Range: $92,600 - $202,200 Annually

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area or equivalent experience/training
  • Certified Payroll Professional – American Payroll Association preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of all payroll functions
  • Skill in leading, supervising, and developing staff
  • Essential leadership skills for project management
  • Strong skills using campus financial systems, common desktop / web applications, and payroll reporting software
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing, complex accounting information in a clear and concise manner with leadership, colleagues, and staff
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across the organization
  • Thorough knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements
