Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Physician Advisor provides physician leadership and clinical expertise related to coordination of patient care, length of stay and level of care management, care variation management, patient flow/throughput management, ancillary services utilization and clinical documentation improvement.  The Physician Advisor reviews clinical cases to provide a physician perspective towards decisions on care coordination, patient status, care progression, patient access (authorization), care variation management and clinical documentation.  

Job Qualifications

Minimum Education/Training/Licensure Required:

·         Graduate of an accredited medical school

·         Completion of specialty residency (e.g. Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine)

·         Qualify for membership as a member of UCLA Health Medical Staff (including Licensure)


Experience, Skills and Abilities:

·         Five years of hospital utilization management experience, with demonstrated success in quality improvement

·         Leadership and fiscal management skills, with the ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration and consistent achievement of objectives.

·         Advanced analytical, critical thinking, organizational and problem-solving skills, with in-depth ability to develop and pursue goals, integrate complex and sometimes disparate functions and develop and apply innovative solutions.

·         Advanced knowledge of all relevant healthcare information technology for functions within areas of responsibility.

·         Maintains knowledge of best practices, relevant systems and data management techniques and methodologies.

·         Demonstrated knowledge of a broad scope of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments.
