Primary Duties and Responsibilities

You will be responsible for preparing, seasoning, and cooking meals for patients, staff, hospital visitors, and special events.

Salary Range: $20.72-26.79/hour


Senate Bill 525 was signed into law by Governor Newsom in October 2023. Starting June 1, 2024, SB525 sets a new $23 minimum wage for nonexempt healthcare workers and raises the exempt employee salary threshold to $1,380/week (equivalent to $5,980/month or $71,760/year).

  As defined under SB525, healthcare workers are defined as employees who are involved in the provision of “health care services,” which means “patient care-related services including nursing; caregiving; services provided by medical residents, interns, or fellows; technical and ancillary services; janitorial work; housekeeping; grounds keeping; guard duties; business office clerical work; food services; laundry; medical coding and billing; call center and warehouse work; scheduling; and gift shop work; but only where such services support patient care”.


 Employees (career, contract, student, per diem) in the UCLA Health medical facilities (e.g. Ronald Reagan Medical Center, Santa Monica UCLA Hospital, Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, etc.) meet these criteria.

Job Qualifications


  • Strong ability to read and understand departmental policies, memos, and safety standards (e.g., HACCP, JCAHO).
  • Effective communication skills in English to interact with customers and staff.
  • Ability to build and maintain cooperative relationships with team members.
  • Self-sufficient with the ability to prioritize and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Flexible in managing diverse tasks and shifting priorities.
  • Knowledge of University, Hospital, and Department policies, including Human Resources procedures.
  • Adherence to sanitation and safety protocols, including JCAHO and HACCP standards.
  • Physical stamina to stand, bend, walk, lift, push, and pull for extended periods in varying temperatures.
  • Ability to lift and move 50+ lbs and work with strong cleaning solutions.
  • Active Safe Serve Certification
