Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Surgery is seeking to hire a limited full-time Staff Research Associate II (SRA II) in a cutting-edge regenerative medicine research laboratory under the mentorship of the Principle Investigator. More specifically, the SRA II will primarily work on a mouse model of metabolic disease, using a gene therapy treatment to correct the abnormality and analysis of organs, blood and tissues for expression levels. In this role you will perform a variety of routine experimental protocols and procedures at a fully operational level, including but not limited to, animal experiments, use of human specimens, cell and tissue culture, DNA/RNA/genomic DNA extraction, ELISA and western blots. You will also take on a significant portion of the lab management duties, including supply management, ordering, and equipment maintenance and calibration. You will also coordinate and assist with general lab support activities (e.g. making common lab reagents).

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent experience in chemistry, microbiology, biochemistry and molecular biology or equivalent experience.
  • Skill in routine molecular and cellular biology techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively on a one-to-one basis sufficiently to convey experimental results to principal investigators.
  • Writing skills sufficient to compose laboratory protocols which are clear, concise, logical and display proper syntax and grammar.
  • Interpersonal skill to interact and collaborate effectively with scientist coworkers, graduate students and faculty.
  • Skill in handling and disposing of contaminated material according to protocol.
  • Ability to organize raw data into relevant formats.
  • Reading skills sufficient to understand specific protocol relevant journal articles, and equipment.
  • Ability to perform library searches.
