The Director of Informatics Training serves as the primary expert and leader in designing, implementing, and managing training programs for CareConnect (Epic) and other technical systems supported under UCLA Health IT (UHIT). This role is responsible for ensuring the effective adoption, engagement, and ongoing education of UCLA Health staff in the use of Epic applications, enterprise IT solutions, and integrated clinical and business systems.
In this role you will:
- Provide strategic direction for informatics training across inpatient, outpatient, and administrative settings, ensuring a comprehensive and integrated approach to education, system adoption, and end-user proficiency.
- Lead a team of training professionals, collaborates with operational and IT leadership, and establishes best practices for training program development, delivery, and evaluation.
- Manage programs and provide oversight of the development of Epic Training, Access Training, Refresher Training, and New Hire Training
- Develop & manage the overall informatics training strategy for all CareConnect and UHIT-supported systems to ensure an integrated curriculum and effective adoption of system changes.
- Build training roadmaps and learning plans for new functions
- Design, develop, and manage curriculum product (including programs and courses) against approved strategy and business model.
- Direct strategy for optimizing marketing, communications and engagement to users regarding system changes and available on-the-job training.
- Liaise with senior leaders to identify training priorities (including training needs analysis) and develop framework for Epic training.
- Strategize long-term training support for EpicCare Ambulatory, Anesthesia, ASAP, Beacon, Bones, Bugsy, Beaker AP/CP, Cadence, ClinDoc, Dermatology, Grand Central & Prelude, Healthy Planet, Haiku/Canto, HIM, HOD, Hospital Billing, ICON, Kaleidoscope, MyChart, Orders, Optime, Phoenix, PlanLink, Professional Billing, Radiant, Research, Referrals, Reporting Workbench, Stork, Tapestry, Telehealth, Welcome, Willow
- Develop training support for non-CareConnect systems: DocuSign, Tableau, Fluency Direct, iMed, iPad Vida Talk App, MUSE, VNA, Bedside, Timeless
- Oversee the Adoption & Engagement Programs: Inpatient Super User Program, Inpatient IT Rounding Program, Outpatient Super User Program, Outpatient IT Rounding Program
- Oversee production and quality control of training materials In-depth and precise management of issues and problems, and providing leadership from beginning to completion
- Monitor training effectiveness of ongoing optimization activities and training-led initiatives and training programs
- Manage training design and long-term support for the opening of new ambulatory clinics, departments, services and/or acquisitions
- Establish and maintain standard operating procedures and metrics to measure productivity and quality
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify training gaps and continuously refine curriculum and delivery methods.
This flexible hybrid role allows for a blend of remote and on-site work, requiring presence as needed based on operational requirements. Please note, travel to the “home office” location is not reimbursed. Each employee will complete a FlexWork Agreement with their manager to outline expectations and ensure mutual understanding. These arrangements are periodically reviewed and may be adjusted or terminated as necessary.
Salary offers are based on a variety of factors including qualifications, experience, and internal equity. The full salary range for this position is $177,100 - $436,100 annually. The University anticipates offering a salary between the minimum and midpoint of this range.

Required Knowledge and Experience
- Masters degree or related experience
· Must have or acquire training/admin certifications required to support the applications. If Director does not yet hold needed certifications, they will be required to travel to Wisconsin and attend Epic Certification training sessions or complete Proficiency training as required by their CNIO. Director required to achieve certification (or proficiency) within three months of the last class and three exam attempts.
· 3+ years of experience in a healthcare related organization or 5+ years of experience with training or education in academic institution preferred
· Master’s degree in Education, Healthcare, Information Technology, or related experience
· Extensive knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional systems design, and other training methodology/concepts
· Experience in adult education, instructional design and eLearning development. Proficiency with a variety of learning development tools
· Experience in managing large teams (15 or more staff) in complex enterprise-level implementation of vendor-supplied software
· Ability to use metrics and data to make informed decisions.
· Minimum of 4 years direct work experience in a project management capacity, including vendor packaged systems implementations; or relevant work experience, including at least 2 years implementing and/or supporting healthcare software applications including building, testing, troubleshooting, managing application and system enhancements and system requests
· Understanding of health care industry service delivery processes, preferably in an Academic Medical Center
· Experience in designing and delivering training, engagement, and adoption programs.
· Must have experience managing, coaching, or mentoring trainers
· Must have experience with advanced LMS features, instructional design tools, and web conferencing tools
· Extensive knowledge of UCLA policies, culture, procedures & business operations is preferred
· Understanding of health care industry service delivery processes, preferably in an Academic Medical Center
· Broad, in-depth knowledge of multiple areas of focus in application specialty areas. Knowledge of systems and functions, including design, development, implementation, user support and training, maintenance, quality assurance, and system testing and evaluation. Proven ability to quickly learn about new specialties, workflows, or modules.
· Ability to research, organize, analyze, and synthesize data to support effective decision making. Ability to coach team members in these skills.
· Must be detail oriented and have a knack for probing for information, in order to fully understand the underlying needs that influence how a system should be configured/ organized.
· Ability to manage and prioritize multiple and competing tasks, appropriately delegate and track work, and hold individuals accountable for work tasks.
