Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented entry level Phlebotomist / CPT 1 to join our dynamic team at Santa Monica Medical Center Clinical Laboratory.

As a Phlebotomist / CPT 1, your primary duties include:

Performs pre-analytical and post-analytical activities and specimen processing duties

Performs phlebotomy on inpatients and outpatients, including neonatal/pediatric patients

Triage all lab samples and requests after verification of appropriate information

Enter and verify patient and test info into computer

Generate computer labels for specimens and deliver to appropriate areas

Prepare samples for transport to referral labs 

Document draws, added tests, and cancelled/rejected specimens 

 

Salary Range: $25.62 - $31.86/hour 


*Completion of probationary period in conjunction with adequate years of experience may result in a career ladder to CPT II position.

Job Qualifications

Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT I).

High school diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED or HiSET).

Ability to work in various locations (e.g. 200 Med Plaza, 100 Med Plaza, and all Med Plaza satellite draw stations).

Skill in using a computer and printer.

Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull at least 20lbs. of equipment/supplies on a regular basis. 

Ability to reach overhead, bend downward and forward, and alternate between sitting or standing. 

Ability to perform repetitive tasks, such as data entry. 

Ability to work weekends, holidays, and other shifts as needed. 

Previous experience performing specimen processing in an acute care facility, preferred.

Previous experience using EPIC, preferred.
