Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain and repair hospital owned normal and emergency power distribution systems and equipment up to 480 volts from secondary side of unit substations, distribution boards, panel boards, and branch circuit wiring. Maintain and repair lighting, and lighting control systems, motors, VFDs, MCCs, Fire Alarm system, Nurse Call system and Public address and alarm systems; locate and diagnose electrical malfunctions using various test instrument such as VOMs, meggars, voltage testers, etc. Repair malfunctions by such methods as replacing defective components, fuses and/or wiring. Test various equipment and systems to ensure reliability. Perform preventative maintenance on core building electrical systems and maintain documentation.  Perform other tasks as assigned by the Sr. Superintendent of the Physical Plant.


Hourly Salary Range: $50.73

Job Qualifications

  • Certification Required: CA DIR Electrician
  • Ability to stand, crawl, walk, and stoop, push, pull and lift or lower objects weighing up to 50Lbs. 
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret the NEC, NFPA 72, NFPA 99 and other codes and standards relevant in working on electrical systems in a healthcare facility.
  • Maintain satisfactory attendance.
  • Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Skill in reading and writing standard English in order to understand written direction and convey concise grammatically correct information.
  • Skill, knowledge and ability to diagnose and repair Ability to work independently and with Facilities Mechanics to solve trouble calls and other electrical problems as needed.
  • Skills, knowledge and ability to maintain, troubleshoot and repair various electrical systems and equipment generally associated with a healthcare facility including VFDs, MCCs, Nurses call systems, Fire Alarm systems, public address systems, etc.
  • Skills, knowledge and ability to respond appropriately to emergencies.
  • Willingness to work overtime as required and work under adverse situations.
  • Working knowledge of industry standard lockout tag-out procedures.
