Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Surgery Liver and Pancreatic Transplant is seeking to hire a full time Staff Research Associate I. In this role you will work in a cutting-edge regenerative medicine research laboratory under the mentorship of the PIs. More specifically, the SRA I will help manage the lab various research animal colonies, and will characterize protein expression in specific tissues, organs and modified stem cell lines by qRT-PCR and immunohistochemistry (IHC) in support of multiple research projects.

Duties could include:

  • Maintain and upkeep mouse colony, including updating mouse log, daily management of the colony and genotyping of mice.
  • Assist in performing assays to assess transfection efficiency including DNA preps and RT-PCR.
  • Perform assays to assess transgene expression in organs, tissues and transfected and/or transduced stem cells including ELISA, RT-PCR, and immunohistochemistry.
  • Manage experimental data for projects for regular updates with PI. 
  • Other duties as assigned

Pay Range: $26.52 - $31.53 

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Skill in routine molecular and cellular biology techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively on a one-to-one basis sufficiently to convey experimental results to principal investigators.
  • Writing skills sufficient to compose laboratory protocols which are clear, concise, logical and display proper syntax and grammar.
  • Interpersonal skill to interact and collaborate effectively with scientist coworkers, graduate students and faculty.
  • Skill in handling and disposing of contaminated material according to protocol.
  • Ability to organize raw data into relevant formats.
  • Reading skills sufficient to understand specific protocol relevant journal articles, and equipment.
  • Ability to perform library searches.
Preferred:
  • Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent experience in chemistry, microbiology, biochemistry and molecular biology
  • Experience working with research animals
