Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Environmental Cardiology and Vascular Biology Laboratory is seeking to hire a Research Assistant to perform experiments in the areas of vascular and molecular biology, lipidology, pathology, and toxicology. Experiments include: histological analyses of aortic and liver sections for atherosclerotic lesions and hepatic steatosis; pulmonary macrophage transplantation studies; bone marrow transplantation studies; assessment of gene expression by quantitative PCR in lungs, liver and aortas of animals exposed to air pollutants and e-cigarettes. Primary duties:

•Conduct molecular biological procedures such as DNA and RNA extraction, gel electrophoresis, genotyping, western blots, real-time PCR, ELISAs, FPLC, ultracentrifugation
•Determine tissue and cellular oxidative stress through various techniques, including assessment of oxidized lipids by mass spectrometry. Perform tissue culture experiments and analyze histological samples
•Mouse colony management
•Perform bleeding, bronchoalveolar lavage, harvest of peritoneal macrophages, culture of bone marrow-derived macrophages, intratracheal administration of compounds, tissue and organ isolation
•Assist with preparation of manuscripts, grant submissions, and figures

Salary range: $28.04-$45.11 Hourly

Job Qualifications

•Knowledge and proficiency in cellular and molecular biology techniques
•Ability to perform tissue culture experiments
•Ability to perform animal dissections
•Experience with mouse colony management
•Ability to perform technical procedures in a timely and accurate manner
•Knowledge and ability to operate basic laboratory equipment such as balances, pH meter, pipettes, light microscopes, centrifuges
•Ability to operate laboratory equipment such as FPLC/HPLC, ultracentrifuge
•Ability to follow written protocols and maintain records and logs accurately.
•Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
