Primary Duties and Responsibilities

As the Patient Safety Specialist, you will be responsible for helping us achieve our goal of becoming a transformative, high-reliability organization with an uncompromising focus on patient safety and outcomes. You will do this by facilitating patient safety and quality improvement initiatives and coordinating the implementation of practices designed to reduce error and improve patient outcomes. This will involve fostering a non-punitive culture of continuous learning and improvement by reviewing safety events, identifying trends in near-miss and actual events, and using Lean methodologies to identify relevant trends. You will:

  • Review daily incident reports
  • Encourage reporting of actual and near miss events
  • Serve as an educational resource for all departments on issues of patient safety and conduct trainings
  • Conduct root cause analyses and monitor actions through completion
  • Facilitate Failure Mode Effects Analysis Teams
  • Support patient safety recognitions programs
  • Review, analyze, and interpret data
  • Prepare complex reports and presentations


Salary Range: $86,400 - $184,800/annually

Job Qualifications

We’re seeking a compassionate, confident, optimistic leader with:

  • Related Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience
  • Master’s degree or MSN, preferred
  • 3 or more years of direct patient care experience and/or more than 1 year quality/patient safety experience
  • CPHQ or CPPS, preferred
  • Lean Academy completion, a plus
  • Strong, confident, and reassuring leadership qualities
  • Ability to facilitate and lead change to drive improvement
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, planning, and decision-making skills 
  • Exercises resourcefulness, critical thinking, and sound judgment when meeting the service needs of others
