Primary Duties and Responsibilities

This position is responsible for performing a variety of cook duties for patients, staff, vistors, and special functions at the Santa Monica Hospital cafeteria and kitchen. Tasks include setting up service lines, pre-plating foods, preparation of meals, and serving customers.

You will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing menus, production sheets, recipes, and inventory to verify needs for the day
  • Cook meat, fowl, fish by baking, roasting, broiling, and steaming
  • Make soups, sauces, stews, and casseroles
  • Clean, peel, cut, slice, dice, weigh and measure ingredients for recipes
  • Plate and/or garnish food for attractive presentation
  • Maintain all foods and ingredients at safe temperatures; record data
  • Maintain food stations sanitary and organized
 
 

Job Qualifications

 
  • ServSafe food handler card or equivalent safe food handling certification. 
  • Experience cooking in a professional setting.
  • Experience utilizing a variety of professional kitchen and cooking equipment. 
  • Ability to work in a standing position for a long period of time; stretch, bend, walk, stoop and reach repetitively.
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, and/or wet areas.
  • Ability to push, pull, and lift 50+ lbs.
  • Ability to conform to dress code per sanitation policies.
  • Ability to use strong cleaning solutions.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend standard English.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with co-workers, customers, and management.
  • Flexible work schedule and ability to adjust to work load.
