Primary Duties and Responsibilities


Under the supervision of a Custodial Supervisor, the Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment across assigned areas, including patient rooms, nursing stations, ancillary spaces, exam and procedure rooms, conference rooms, offices, hallways, corridors, and other public areas.

Duties include operating a variety of cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, wall and window washing tools, shampoo machines, and floor care machines. Responsibilities also include sweeping, stripping, and waxing floors, as well as performing both high and low dusting to ensure all surfaces are properly maintained.

The role includes thorough cleaning of vertical and horizontal surfaces using approved cleaning solutions, with strict adherence to infection control standards, including isolation room cleaning protocols.

Knowledge of the appropriate use, handling, and storage of disinfectants, cleaning agents, soaps, detergents, and floor care products is preferred, along with a commitment to maintaining a safe and hygienic environment for patients, staff, and visitors.


Salary Range: $27.09-27.09/hr

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative working relationships with peers, supervisors, and staff.

  • Ability to read and comprehend procedures, memos, labels, instructions, forms, and signage.

  • Ability to write and maintain accurate, clear, and legible records and logs.

  • Physical ability to stand, bend, stoop, reach, and climb ladders for extended periods of time.

  • Physical ability to lift equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to push and pull cleaning equipment such as mops, brooms, carts, vacuum cleaners, and other powered equipment.

  • Ability to complete assigned tasks accurately and efficiently despite frequent interruptions.

  • Ability to understand and follow procedures, memos, labels, directions, forms, and signage.

  • Ability to maintain accurate and legible records and logs.

  • Prior experience in a hospital or hotel housekeeping environment preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2–3 years of housekeeping experience in a healthcare setting and/or LA Unified School District Janitorial Service certification preferred.

  • High school diploma or GED required.
