Primary Duties and Responsibilities

In this role, you will provide excellent customer service while supporting daily operations within the hospital cafeteria and coffee bar. This position combines cashiering responsibilities with beverage preparation and food service support in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Accurately process customer purchases using a computerized point-of-sale system
  • Prepare coffee, espresso beverages, and other specialty drinks according to established recipes and quality standards
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked work area, ensuring supplies and products are replenished as needed
  • Perform cash handling duties, including balancing cash drawers, reconciling daily transactions, and securing deposits in accordance with established procedures
  • Assist in food service operations and support other cafeteria stations based on departmental and operational needs
  • Adhere to food safety, sanitation, and customer service standards at all times 
Effective 06/22/2025, employees represented by the AFSCME Union will receive a minimum wage of $25.

Please note: This role requires flexibility to float across locations during the training period.

Job Qualifications


  • Demonstrated skills in handling computerized cash registers to process transactions.
  • Skill in making change, handling currency, and being able to recognize counterfeit bills easily.
  • Skill in performing basic bookkeeping transactions.
  • Mathematical skills to insure accuracy in calculating and generating deposits and postings according to University Policy.
  • Ability to adhere to all Departmental, University, and Hospital policies as relevant to cash handling procedures.
  • Ability to function fully as a team member, participating in on-going performance improvement projects.
  • Ability to interact with both internal and external customers in a high volume operation with diplomacy and patience.
  • Ability to stand, bend, walk, reach, lift, push, and pull for prolonged periods of time in hot and cold areas.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull at least 50 lbs.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to all safety and sanitation procedures as outlined by JC and HACCP standards.
  • Skill in reading, speaking, and writing English.
  • Ability to travel to multiple UCLA Health locations.
