Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Finance Manager, you will provide all standard monthly financial reporting for the clinical and lab practices of the Department of Ophthalmology and the Jules Stein Eye Institute.  This includes, but is not limited to: 

  • Review the revenues and expenses of the sales and service funds (which include the Compensation plan funds).
  • Perform financial reconciliations of expenditures and appropriations. 
  • Act as the primary person responsible for the on-going training of staff members in the purchasing and accounts payable positions.  
  • Prepare financial reports on various gift and endowment funds.  
  • Prepare ad hoc reports and basic analysis.  
  • Provide back up assistance on all Business Office Functions.  
  • Serve as the primary Departmental Security Administrator (DSA).

Salary Range: $24.28-48.04 Hourly

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Creativity, resourcefulness and ingenuity in determining and locating appropriate sources of information required to validate and/or correct content and format of general ledger data.
  • Detailed knowledge of fundamental accounting principles such as credits and debits, revenue and expense, fund balances, and income statements.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the business ethics connected to the accountability and confidentiality involved in processing and compiling financial data, and knowledge of the organizational hierarchy and policies and procedures established around such responsibilities.
  • Analytical skills to evaluate and correct as necessary both content and coding of source documents and G/L downloaded data
  • Ability to read and interpret financial reports, including salary distribution spreadsheets in order to draw conclusions from data.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff and administrators.
  • Training skills to communicate various aspects of departmental functions (at appropriate levels of technical sophistication) to departmental individuals on an ongoing basis.
  • Skills in MS office products, including MS Access.


Preferred:

  • Bachelors degree in accounting or finance.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a financial reporting position.
  • Experience with University business office functions including purchasing, accounts payable and Departmental recharging.
  • Knowledge of University general ledger system and web reports.
