Primary Duties and Responsibilities

This full-time position for a Staff Research Associate I in the Department of Neurosurgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine will entail being responsible for assisting with clinical trials and laboratory research. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: analyze multiplex immunofluorescence data, processing clinical biological samples such as blood and tumor, maintain experiment records, cataloguing sample inventory, as well as retrieving, transporting, and shipping biological samples. Other necessary responsibilities include being responsible for laboratory maintenance: this includes the disposal of chemical and biohazardous waste, autoclaving and cleaning of lab equipment and supplies, ordering and maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies, and ensuring the lab space abides by institutional safety standards. Must be able to follow standard operating procedures and work collaboratively with others. Prefer minimum of bachelor’s degree in life sciences and 1 year of laboratory experience. Administrative work will be required, including maintenance of records and laboratory maintenance. Candidate will follow all laboratory safety practices, train volunteers and assist with coordinating the enrollment of patients with the Human Gene and Cell Therapy facility.


Pay Range: $25.75 - $30.71 Hourly

Job Qualifications

All Required:

1. Must have at least 1year prior wet laboratory experience
2. Previous experience with biosafety training, sterile technique and human biospecimens.
3. Competency to analyze data and use computer programs to quantify data.
4. Ability and willingness to learn new techniques as needed for ongoing and developing projects.
5. Ability to order supplies, lab maintenance, responsible for general maintenance upkeep of laboratory equipment; train new personnel in the use of laboratory equipment; ensure laboratory is in compliance with various safety requirements, including EH&S and biosafety compliance.
6. Ability to work independently on assigned tasks with great organizational skills
7. Maintain accurate records of experiments and results both in writing and computerized database.
8. Interpersonal skills to work effectively with staff, faculty and administrators. Ability to work with frequent interruptions and competing priorities. General knowledge of UCLA policies and procedures
