Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Nurse Navigator oversees all of phsyicians patients calls, messages, surgeries, triage calls etc 

  • Serving as the primary nurse navigator for the Director of UCI’s Ambulatory Department of Urology  
  • Function as a clinician, advocate, and educator to achieve optimal clinical and quality outcomes by effectively managing care and resources to reduce unnecessary utilization. 
  • Plan, manage, and facilitate day-to-day clinic appointments and procedures with the assigned team of medical assistants and LVN 
  • Advanced clinical telephone support to pateints and other callers, inbasket and support to physicians  
  • Pre-op patients for surgeries and procedures 
  • Outline surgery requirements and provide thorough teaching and instructions to patients 
  • Guiding patients through every process up until surgery by reviewing completion of requirements, and addressing any concerns pertaining to labs, imaging, and surgery clearance. 
  • Triaging urgent and complex urologic complications with appropriate interventions 
  • Coordinating long-term care, chemotherapy infusions, home health, DME’s diagnostic testing and assisting with insurance authorizations. 
  • Circulating for urologic biopsies and additional procedures 
  • Suprapubic and foley catheter changes, nephrostomy tube dressing changes, administration of intravesical treatments, chemotherapy, and therapeutic injections

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to apply / interpret organization and college policies and procedures which govern academic HR.
  • Knowledge of organization, college and departmental formal and informal policies and procedures and understanding of variances to stated policies.
  • Knowledge of human resources management systems and other related business software programs and systems.
  • Knowledge of unit academic culture and educational goals of discipline(s) served.
  • Analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations to Chairs / unit management.
  • Demonstrated organization, problem solving, and communication skills.
