Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Join a fast-paced team in the Department of Ophthalmology's Glaucoma clinic! We’re looking for a proactive and personable individual to help create a seamless and welcoming experience for our patients. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Answer and triage incoming telephone calls in a professional and timely manner
  • Register patients and schedule appointments using the electronic medical record (EMR) system
  • Check in/out patients and verify insurance and demographic information
  • Collect fees and co-pays at time of service
  • Process referrals and authorizations

Salary Range: $25.60-36.33 Hourly

Job Qualifications

Required

  • Working knowledge of current third party payer systems, including managed care and governmental programs such as HMO’s, PPO’s, Medicare, and Medicaid; familiarity with current patient billing practices and insurance verification terminology to determine eligibility and coverage.
  • Excellent interpersonal and strong customer service skills including the ability to deal effectively with patients who are under stress.
  • Familiarity with computerized patient appointment scheduling system, preferable PDM system.
  • Ability to follow-through with tasks under minimal supervision and ability to prioritize work effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills and maintain patient records efficiently.
  • Flexible personality and the ability to function well with interruptions and multi-task effectively with high volumes.
  • Working knowledge of all Microsoft applications (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Demonstrated typing and word processing skills to prepare correspondence, email and other documents with speed and accuracy. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding sensitive patient medical information.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain composure when confronted by difficult patient situations and to respond professionally.

Preferred

  • Working knowledge of ophthalmic terminology.
  • At least 2 years working in a clinical office.
