Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of the Pharmacy Clinical Applications and Automation Manager, the Clinical Applications Pharmacist implements/maintains information systems for both inpatient and ambulatory pharmaceutical services. Some of these functions include:

 

  • Utilize medication safety best practices, standards of care, and human design factors principles to develop, test, and implement sustainable solutions within our pharmacy systems.
  • Improve how clinicians, staff, and patients interact with our existing systems, and ensure that new systems are implemented in a way that optimizes quality of care, safety, and cost. 
  • Provide consultation to pharmacy leaders regarding informatics-related topics, participate in pharmacy-led improvement projects, and ensure that drug-related clinical guidelines are reflected in our systems.
  • Create systematic solutions for new departmental initiatives, partnering with specialist/technical team members to take enhancements from concept to deployment, and partner with data analysts to validate essential reports.
  • Take a lead role in the design and optimization of drug-related clinical decision support systems including our ancillary systems from 3rd party vendors. Maintain the safety and effectiveness of these system through use of pharmaceutical expertise.
  • Prove clinical oversight and operational consultation to technical team members on topics such as interface design, medication record configuration, workflows, clinical decision support, etc.
  • Support the ongoing maintenance of our billing infrastructure and 340B program, to ensure that both hospital revenue and medication accumulations are maximized.
  • Participate in the training of staff for new system implementations and upgrades.
  • Participate as a preceptor to pharmacy students and residents completing a rotation in Pharmacy Informatics.

 

Schedule: Varied shifts, depending on department needs, including weekends and holidays

Location: Shared location between Ronald Reagan Medical Center and West Valley Medical Center

Hourly Salary Range: $83.81 - $104.18 (Union represented, step based salary depending on years of experience)

Bargaining Unit: HX-UPTE


Job Qualifications

We’re seeking a strong, independent clinical leader with current California Pharmacy licensure, a PharmD degree and: 

 

  • Minimum two (2) years of clinical dispensing and/or clinical pharmacy experience in ambulatory and/or inpatient environment.
  • Willow Inpatient, Ambulatory and Inventory Certification is required within 6 months of date of hire/transfer
  • Strong communication, organizational, prioritizing, and follow-through skills
  • Experience with Epic and BD pharmacy systems preferred
  • Residency in Pharmacy Informatics preferred
