Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) – Hematology/Oncology and Solid Tumor serves as the clinical nursing leader for the adult hematology/oncology and solid tumor program at UCLA Health. This role requires advanced expertise in oncology, evidence-based practice, collaboration, consultation, education, mentoring, and change leadership to enhance nursing practice and support professional development.

The CNS operates within three primary spheres of influence: patients and families, nurses and nursing practice, and the organization/system. In partnership with Unit/Service Line Directors, the CNS leads clinical nursing practice, guiding and coordinating nursing activities and projects within the specialty area.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing, implementing, and evaluating safe, cost-effective, and evidence-based care strategies.
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes.
  • Advancing nursing practice at the unit, system, local, state, national, and international levels.

This position plays a critical role in driving innovation and excellence in hematology/oncology nursing, ensuring high-quality patient care and professional growth within UCLA Health.


Salary: $140,200 - $331,800 Annual


Job Qualifications

We’re seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) with:

License: Active CA RN and CA CNS license – Required

Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required
  • National certification in area of specialty – Required
  • CNS Advanced Practice Certification – Preferred

Education: Master’s in Nursing – Required

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of recent RN experience, including at least 3 years in the clinical specialty – Required
  • At least 1 year of CNS experience in the clinical specialty – Preferred

Skills & Competencies:

  • Demonstrated expertise as an advanced practice nurse in leadership, communication, collaboration, mentoring, and change management, as evidenced by CV/portfolio, letters of recommendation, references, interview, and demonstration.
  • Proven ability to apply evidence-based practice to develop and implement standards, policies, teaching, and coaching strategies.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and presentation skills, with proficiency in MS Office programs.

Additional Experience: Research and grant writing experience – Preferred
