Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the laboratory and office managers, the Lab Assistant I supports daily operations and overall maintenance of the UCLA Translational Oncology Research Labs. Responsibilities include assisting with lab and office organization, disposing of biohazard waste in accordance with Health and Safety regulations, and operating equipment such as the autoclave and distilled water machine under supervision. The role involves receiving and properly storing incoming lab shipments, maintaining inventory, and preparing and shipping research materials.

The Lab Assistant I will also manage supply stocking and distribution, handle mail delivery between Santa Monica and UCLA campus locations, and screen calls via lab main lines. Additional tasks include assisting with lab and office repairs, preparing order forms, verifying deliveries against packing slips and purchase orders, and following up on any discrepancies or back orders. The position also involves maintaining office files and databases to support administrative functions.

This is a part-time limited position that may convert to career.

Salary Range: $19.90 - $23.04 Hourly

Job Qualifications

Required:
  • Ability to place and receive orders with accuracy
  • Ability in maintaining proper usage of laboratory equipment.
  • Skill in using computer and Excel software to update inventory control
  • Ability to communicate well and work as a team
  • Organizational skills to stock laboratory and office supplies to perform inventory
  • Knowledge of the ordering system with regards to calling in orders to vendors and reconciling shipments and purchase orders

Preferred:
  • Knowledge of Biohazardous materials and how to discard them
  • Knowledge of UCLA campus in order to run errands on campus as needed
