Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Lab Assistant II provides both administrative and clinical support for the laboratory. Responsibilities include preparing and managing daily laboratory resources, processing and shipping biological specimens with dry ice, obtaining liquid nitrogen, preparing lab kits and supplies, and disposing of biohazard materials. The role also involves maintaining confidential filing systems, performing data entry, preparing correspondence, answering phone calls, and handling faxing, photocopying, and scanning. Additional duties include updating research charts and study logs, preparing investigational drug reports, and obtaining study participant records from internal and external sources.
The Lab Assistant II also supports study operations by transporting records and charts between clinic locations, assisting with physician signatures, coordinating campus tours for sponsor representatives, and reviewing research coordinator schedules. Other responsibilities include assisting in tumor collection and freezing samples in liquid nitrogen, picking up and returning oral medications for documentation, and managing lab manuals and study materials. The position requires attending meetings as needed and performing other duties in support of the lab’s research and clinical activities.
Salary Range: $22.02 - $25.90 Hourly

All Required:
- Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively interact with campus departments and the public
- Ability to prioritize workload and ensure confidentiality
- Ability to use a personal computer and other standard office and lab equipment
- Ability to answer incoming calls and take appropriate and detailed messages
- Ability to file accurately in both alphabetical and numerical sequence
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to shift priorities to meet deadlines
- Skills in performing duties with frequent interruptions and/or distractions
- Willingness to travel between UCLA Westwood and COCPs
- Ability to compose correspondence, prepare logs, and complete research forms/documents using clear and concise English grammar
- Ability to compose letters and memos using clear and concise English grammar
- Ability to work with a high level of accuracy especially when preparing lab specimens for shipment and/or delivery to clinical research laboratories
- Ability to lift/push/pull equipment such as fax machine, computers, large amounts of documents and boxes. Replace large water bottle on water cooler as needed. Ability to lift/push/pull up to approximately 50 lbs.
- Facility with medical terminology and a strong understanding of the delivery of medical care.
- Ability to assist with general lab organization, safety, ordering, stocking, and maintenance of inventory laboratory supplies
