Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary Medicine, is seeking to hire a part-time Laboratory Assistant to support ongoing clinical and translational studies. Working under the Principal Investigator, you will process human bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, blood, and tissue samples, and provide essential laboratory support to faculty and research staff.

You will also assist investigators and clinical research coordinators with data collection, database maintenance, and coordinating patient‑related activities for clinical trials—contributing directly to research that advances the understanding of pulmonary disease.

*Note, this is a part-time limited opportunity which may convert to career.

Hourly range: $25.75-$30.17

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Ability to work cooperatively with other team members to maintain smooth workflow.
  • Ability to accomplish required tasks independently.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks with minimal supervision and meet conflicting deadlines.
  • Ability to understand instruction manual and other laboratory-related materials.
  • Ability to understand and execute given lab protocols.
  • Ability to keep accurate and organized records.
  • Ability to handle confidential materials and information with discretion
  • Ability to adhere to established attendance and punctuality rules.  

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of University guidelines pertaining to biological safety including chemical and biomedical waste management.
  • Ability to use centrifuge, biosafety cabinet, and ultra-cold freezers
  • Knowledge of how to properly use, clean, and sterilize various types of lab-ware.
  • Ability to maintain and keep labs and lab equipment in good condition and working order.
  • Knowledge in MS Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • B.S. degree preferred
  • 1-2 years of lab experience preferred
