Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the brain tumor investigators in the UCLA Neuro-Oncology Program in the Department of Neurology, the Laboratory Assistant will assist with clinical and laboratory tasks, and perform research data collection and management.  Under supervision, you will meet and acquaint new patients to the UCLA Neuro-Oncology Clinic to the various research protocols available in the Brain Tumor Program, and assist investigators in identifying patients eligible for non-treatment study protocols. You will also assist the Neuro-Psychologist and Medical Social worker in administering brief clinical neuropsychological evaluations and psychosocial questionnaires

While performing all tasks, the Laboratory Assistant must respond diplomatically, professionally, helpfully and in a timely manner to high volume of diverse inquiries and requests from the public, patients, families, faculty, fellows, and health care providers. You must also represent the UCLA Neuro-Oncology Program in a respectful and professional manner to all callers, visitors, patients and other UCLA Departments.

Salary Range: $22.02 - $25.90/Hourly

 

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in biological or equivalent or related fields.
  • PC (or Mac) Skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and flexibility in responding to rapidly changing priorities and exceptionally diverse demands through constant interruptions in a fast-paced office.
  • Ability to learn new software programs.
  • Proficiency in SQL database.
  • Proficiency in querying in SQL database.
  • Experience in compiling reports in SQL database.
  • Excellent verbal and written English skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to deal with and sustain cooperative working relationships with faculty and staff.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and diplomacy.
  • Ability to learn rapidly and follow through tasks with details.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • General knowledge of UCLA forms, policies and procedures.


Preferred:

  • Demonstrated experience working with patients with brain cancer.
