Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Under supervision, the Lead Plumber serves as a work leader for plumbers and helpers assigned to a specific job.  The Lead Plumber gives instructions to carry out assigned tasks; may make minor changes in material needs or modifications to assigned work due to material delays or other problems; communicate work order revisions, material delays or other problems to Supervisor and await further instruction; maintain time and material records and perform the full range of job duties as outlined in the Plumber position.



Hourly rate: $56.54/ hour

Job Qualifications

  • Possession and maintenance of a current Los Angeles City or California State Journeymen's License.
  • Satisfactory completion of a certified 4-year trade related apprenticeship program or equivalent experience and education.
  • 10 years journeyman-level experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of materials, equipment, methods, and tools of the plumber's trade, including achievement of operational skills.
  • Demonstrated skill and experience in all of the following plumbing areas: domestic & industrial water systems; commercial and/or process piping; medical gas.
  • Advanced knowledge of various plumbing systems to include purified water; air, natural and medical gas; vacuum, soil, waste and vent; steam condensate, pipe covering and insulation, fire protection; miscellaneous fluid systems, fixtures and appliances.
  • Skill in conducting appropriate tests on water, air and natural gas lines; hydrostatic or air pressure and flow tests.
  • Ability to install various piping, plumbing fixtures and all related components.
  • Ability to troubleshoot piping systems for signs of damage or deterioration or need for adjustment.
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand technical language in specifications, schematics and blueprints.  Skill in reading technical instructions related to the trade in order to comprehend written work instructions, equipment operating instructions,
  • Skill in modifying and/or adapting designs, procedures or methods to make necessary alterations and modifications.
  • Skill in estimating material and labor requirements to accomplish task.  Skill in adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing 4-digit numbers and fractions in order to calculate layouts and offsets, and provide accurate cost calculations.
  • Ability to prioritize, schedule and coordinate work projects; direct and inspect the work of subordinates; train and evaluate subordinates' effectiveness against job standards.  Ability to provide on the job training to apprentices and provide evaluate.
  • Ability to resolve any inaccuracies in workmanship and/or correct customer concerns. - Required
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with peers, subordinates, supervisors, administrators, customers, visitors, and outside agencies.
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments.
  • Oral communications skills to obtain or convey clear, concise, and grammatically correct information.  Ability to write standard English text using correct grammar and spelling to complete reports, forms, and work orders that are accurate and easy to understand.
  • Advanced knowledge of standard safe work practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of UBC, OSHA and ADA requirements as it relates to the function, the ability to recognize fire/life/safety code discrepancies, and the current California Uniform Plumbing Code, NFPA 99, NFPA.
  • NFPA 25, and Title 24 code.
  • Ability to stand, crawl, walk, and stoop; push, pull and lift or lower objects weighing up to 50 lbs.  Ability to work indoors and outdoors, in wet or humid weather, and in fluctuating and/or extreme temperatures.  Ability to work under adverse conditions.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and various shifts.
  • Working knowledge of personal computer and related software.
Preferred 
  • Possession of a Backflow Prevention Certificate.
  • Possession of a California State Contractor's license.
  • Possession of Medical gas installers card or brazing certification.
