Primary Duties and Responsibilities

As a Patient Transporter, you will be responsible for positioning, transferring and transporting patients to and from various departments or locations by wheelchair, bed, or gurney. You may also perform teaching and training functions, dispatching function, and limited clerical duties for the transport function. Other role requirements include:
- Equipment maintenance and cleaning or disinfection
- Deliver and pick-up specimens, blood, medical equipment, medical records, medications, and various other items
- Transport deceased patients to the morgue
This is a full-time position eligible for full benefits. Work schedule will be determined by management.
Salary Range: $21.12- $27.85 Hourly
Senate Bill 525 was signed into law by Governor Newsom in October 2023. Starting June 1, 2024, SB525 sets a new $23 minimum wage for nonexempt healthcare workers and raises the exempt employee salary threshold to $1,380/week (equivalent to $5,980/month or $71,760/year).
1. As defined under SB525, healthcare workers are defined as employees who are involved in the provision of “health care services,” which means “patient care-related services including nursing; caregiving; services provided by medical residents, interns, or fellows; technical and ancillary services; janitorial work; housekeeping; grounds keeping; guard duties; business office clerical work; food services; laundry; medical coding and billing; call center and warehouse work; scheduling; and gift shop work; but only where such services support patient care”.
2. Employees (career, contract, student, per diem) in the UCLA Health medical facilities (e.g. Ronald Reagan Medical Center, Santa Monica UCLA Hospital, Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, etc.) meet these criteria.
Job Qualifications

Required:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or Red Cross.
- Interpersonal skills to interact diplomatically and sensitively with acutely ill patients.
- Knowledge of basic computer skills to perform data entry and to obtain information from Hospital Systems utilizing a personal computer.
- Ability to push, pull, lift a minimum of 150 pounds.
- Knowledge of proper lifting techniques sustaining a safe work environment for self and co-workers.
- Skilled in English language in both written and verbal format.
- Good comprehension of written and verbal instruction.
- Ability to strictly obey healthcare regulations for Infection Control, and follow UCLA Policies and Procedures.
- Demonstrates a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Acute care hospital experience.
- Knowledge of patient care in a hospital setting.
- Transport and/or lift team experience.
