Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Patient Services Manager and Supervisors, the Food Service Worker is responsible for preparing and delivering meals to patients in accordance with dietary guidelines. This includes working assigned tray assembly stations, maintaining proper sanitation in food handling and equipment use, and ensuring a clean and organized work area. The position assists patients with menu selections, distributes meals according to the diet master list, collects trays after meal service, and delivers food carts to designated areas. Additional duties include delivering snacks to patients, following sanitation standards for all service food, and maintaining tray service as needed. Other duties may be assigned to support department operations.


Job Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in food service, including tray assembly, meal service, or general food preparation.

  • Ability to read and write in English and follow oral and written instructions to accurately identify food items and menu selections.

  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced tray assembly environment.

  • Basic math skills and ability to perform simple calculations without a calculator.

  • General knowledge and understanding of various diets and dietary restrictions.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with co-workers, patients, medical staff, supervisors, and management.

  • Ability to adhere to departmental dress code and personal hygiene standards.

  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, bend, stretch, lift, push, walk, and reach repetitively.

  • Ability to lift and push heavy carts safely.

  • Willingness to attend and participate in required departmental training sessions.
