Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform on-call procurement, perfusion, preservation, and transport of cadaveric donor organs for transplantation under the supervision of the Division Administrator.

  • Verify donor and recipient medical information to ensure organ and tissue compatibility.

  • Review donor medical records to confirm consent, medical and social history, and relevant clinical information.

  • Complete intraoperative documentation, operative reports, and specimen labeling in accordance with UCLA policies, UNOS standards, CMS regulations, and HIPAA requirements.

  • Utilize sterile technique to perfuse and preserve donor organs following UCLA standard operating procedures and protocols.

  • Coordinate medevac transportation to and from donor facilities and relay critical information among the procurement team, transplant centers, and organ procurement organizations.

  • Ensure the timely, safe, and secure transportation of donor organs back to UCLA.

  • Assist with proper packaging of donor organs for transport.

  • Maintain inventory of essential supplies, including coolers, recovery packs, perfusion supplies, and preservation solutions.

  • Support quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) initiatives and clinical studies by gathering data as directed.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned under the guidance of the Chief of Procurement and the Transplant Services Quality Assurance Manager.

Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and other shifts. Frequent travel within North America is required. Must reside sufficiently close to UCLA Medical Center to respond on short notice if necessary. This position requires a background in health sciences or prior clinical experience, as well as an overall understanding of organ transplantation. Requires superior organization, communication, and interpersonal skills to communicate/coordinate with multidisciplinary teams utilizing a wide range of alternatives in problem solving situations, demonstrating a high degree of professional competence and skill.

Salary: $34.41-$45.38/hourly

   

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Working knowledge of the use, function and operation of operating room equipment
  • Knowledge of UNOS policy as related to organ procurement
  • Ability to speak, write and read English
  • Ability to follow through on all assignments
  • Ability to move heavy objects
  • Ability to work on call whenever assigned

Preferred: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in the life sciences
  • Working knowledge of basic anatomy and correct terminology
  • Experience working in a clinical hospital setting
