Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The David Geffen School of Medicine (DGSOM), Department of Surgery is seeking to hire a manager to join the Population-Health Research Unit (PHRU). The ideal candidate for this role will have a strong background in health services research methodology and study coordination and logistics. This position presents an exciting opportunity to be part of a fast-paced team responsible for providing the A-Zs of population health research–development, implementation, and dissemination. The manager will have a team and will work across all Surgery Divisions with a variety of personnel and leading health care researchers (i.e., Principal Investigators, Sub-Investigators, trainees, and national/international collaborators). The candidate will be responsible for developing, conducting, and providing direction/oversight for the qualitative and quantitative research studies conducted through the PHRU, including but not limited to study design, methodology, data analyses, and study recruitment. The PHRU Manager must manage competing demands to ensure deadlines and obligations are met. The PHRU Manager is responsible for overseeing daily research staffing requirements including research staff recruitment; orientation of research staff to their job duties and responsibilities, and research study procedures; addressing staff performance with counseling when needed; processing research staff terminations when required. 

Salary Range: $83,800.00 - $179,400.00 annually 

Job Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in public health or similar field or a combination of equivalent years of education, training and experience.
  • Minimum 5-7 years research experience in community-based and academic medical settings or similar setting.
  • Strong methodological background in quantitative and qualitative research methodologies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate with leadership, and lead and direct subordinates.
  • Position requires interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels.
  • Advanced knowledge of organization and research-specific computer applications
  • Demonstrated experience working on campus, medical center or other university setting and various external venues.
  • In-depth knowledge of policies, practices, and systems; human and other resource planning; client services oriented; has good listening, critical thinking, analytical, research and comprehensive project management skills.
  • Ability to travel, as necessary.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and weekends, when necessary.
