Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Under general supervision of the Medical Specialty Suites Manager, in collaboration with the pulmonary division, you will perform routine Pulmonary Function and Exercise studies, as well as, more advanced studies such as REE studies, and Cardiopulmonary Exercise tests.  Other functions include:

  • Overseeing or assisting quality control procedures, preventative maintenance and  personnel training.
  • Establishment of new testing procedures
  • Assisting in direction and coordination of shift activities
  • Developing and monitoring specific research protocols.  
  • Training other staff and monitoring quality assurance activity as assigned. 
  • May be required to work in any area of the Health System
Salary Range: $48.53-$64.03/hr 

Job Qualifications

Educational Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid California Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) License — Required
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) — Required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), American Heart Association or American Red Cross — Required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) — Preferred
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) — Preferred
  • Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) — Preferred

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Proficient in operating respiratory and cardiopulmonary equipment, including blood gas analyzers, co-oximeters, pulse oximeters, pulmonary function testing equipment, cardiopulmonary exercise equipment, EKG machines, and PAP devices
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet competing deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Strong collaboration skills; ability to work effectively in team-based environments and support quality assurance efforts for spirometry and PAP management
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to effectively convey instructions and information to staff and patients
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and ability to conduct research interviews, including collection of confidential patient health information
  • Experience with data management, including data cleaning, validation, and quality control
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain patient confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and patients
  • Experience performing mask fit testing, spirometry, sputum induction, and methacholine challenge testing
  • Knowledge of pulmonary lab equipment, including calibration, maintenance, and quality assurance procedures, as well as emergency response equipment
  • Proficient in use of computers and standard communication software
  • Experience adjusting CPAP settings per physician orders
  • Ability to educate patients on proper use, maintenance, cleaning, and replacement of CPAP equipment and accessories
