Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The UCLA Metabolomics Center in the Crump Institute for Molecular Imaging is seeking a motivated Staff Research Associate I to join its collaborative metabolomics research team. The incumbent will support cutting-edge liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) studies through sample preparation, instrument operation and maintenance, metabolite identification and quantification, and data quality analysis. Responsibilities include processing LC-MS data using specialized software and R-based analytical pipelines, assisting with metabolite extractions, troubleshooting instrumentation, maintaining metabolite databases and standard operating procedures, and contributing to the continuous improvement of laboratory workflows that advance innovative biomedical research.

Hourly range: $28.69-$34.21

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • BS in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology, or related fields and or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Foundational understanding of the principles of liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry (LC-MS). Experience with both liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. 
  • Knowledge of metabolism, biochemistry and molecular biology.
  • Experience operating complex instrumentation, including liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry.
  • Ability to create new LC-MS methods and implement new analysis methodologies.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including knowledge of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and computer maintenance.
  • Attention to details and good organizational skills.
  • Dependability and accuracy in task execution.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other team members to coordinate work assignments and address irregularities.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with team members and facility users.
