Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the UCLA Brain Tumor SPORE Principal Investigator (PI), the Staff Research Associate IV will be part of an innovative brain tumor research lab.  The responsibilities include but are not limited to the design of in vitro and in vivo experiments related to development therapeutics in brain tumor immunotherapy.  You must have a deep scientific expertise in several disciplines including molecular biology, biochemistry, cellular and molecular immunology/immunotherapy, and cancer biology.  The SRA IV independently and in consultation with the PI designs, executes, interprets and reports data.  Additionally, you are responsible for daily proper functioning and organization of the PIs lab and coordination with lab members on their research and ensuring all lab equipment is functioning properly. 

The SRA IV oversees consistency and accuracy of results and documentation and will act as a lead of junior lab members assigned by the PI. In addition, you will lead and facilitate the research of all the graduate students working in the PI’s lab.  The SRA IV is expected to solve most of the daily and weekly lab function problems that arise with little input. You will be responsible for driving project timelines and staying within the PI’s proposed budget. You will assesses risks, identify key issues, and develop solutions. The SRA IV should be self-motivated, show initiative, and be able to work independently on projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to multi-task, strong communication skills, and troubleshooting abilities. Additional responsibilities include maintaining laboratory databases, participating in group and project meetings, and aiding in the writing of papers, grants, and patent applications.

Salary Range: $73046.78 - $117544.05/Annually

 

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Masters degree in Molecular Biology required, Ph.D. degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience performing experimental techniques commonly employed in cancer biology or tumor immunology.
  • At least 8+ years of experience working in a wet lab environment.
  • Working knowledge and experience with aspects of drug discovery and development including initial new drug (IND)-enabling studies.
  • Working knowledge and experience of in vivo testing and drugs and therapeutics in animal models for brain tumor studies.
  • Working knowledge and experience in medicinal chemistry in CNS therapeutic areas/target classes.
  • Expertise in assessing pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamic properties of lead drug candidates.
  • Ability to prepare computerized figures for graphic representation of data obtained in experiments.
  • Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills.
  • Track record of scientific contributions including peer reviewed publications, patent applications, and/or presentations at major national meetings.
  • Ability to present data orally and visually to large crowds.
  • Skills in lab safety and operation.
 

Preferred:

  • Experience mentoring and developing individual talent capable of taking on future leadership roles
