This position is open to undergraduate students to participate in translational research as an assistant for bench research projects. The project involves developing and using various murine strains to examine the role of Piezo1 in the function of the enteric musculature. The position involves working with a faculty in the UCLA Department of Pediatrics. The student will learn how to perform immunofluorescence to examine the changes that occur in the muscularis. The study involves processing samples for growth in an in vitro setting and performing staining of fixed and live cells and assessment by confocal imaging. The position also requires proficiencies in DNA and RNA isolation and performing qPCR and PCR for quantitative transcript and genotype assessments.
Salary Range: $16.80 - $45.00 Hourly
Job Qualifications

• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Familiarity with basic spreadsheet and word processing use
• Adaptability to feedback and ability to adjust to a fast-paced work environment
• Quantitative skills are required to perform dilutions of chemicals in a systematic manner
Preferred:
• Prior experience working with mice
• Interest in developing a long-term career in biomedical, translational research
