Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare operating rooms for surgery by setting up surgical instruments, sterile drapes and necessary supplies.
  • Ensure all equipment is functional and properly sterilized before procedure.
  • Assist the surgical team during operations, including passing instruments and maintaining a sterile field.
  • Count sponges, needles and intruments before and after procedures to ensure accuracy.
  • Handle specimens in an appropriate fashion.
  • Help transfer patients to and from the operating room.
  • Clean and restock the OR following surgeries.
  • Comply with infection control and safety guidelines at all times.

Job Qualifications

Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technology program or relevant experience - required

Certification as a Surgical Technologist - preferred

2 years hospital based experience - preferred

BLS from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association - required

Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, sterile technique, and medical terminology

Excellent teamwork, communication and organizational skills
