Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The UCLA Simulation Center is a state-of-the-art, interprofessional health professions training facility that applies active learning and immersive educational techniques, tools, and technologies to transform health education and patient safety.

Under the general guidance of the Executive and Operations Directors, the Simulation Operations Specialist is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and supporting educational and research activities within the Center, including undergraduate and graduate medical training, nursing education, and UCLA Health staff and patient safety programs. This position provides operational and technical support for the daily functions of the Center, including expertise in the operation, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and user training of simulation equipment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Set up, operate, and support simulation sessions using high-fidelity simulators, computer systems, and clinical equipment.
  • Coordinate and facilitate educational and training activities across multiple learner groups and disciplines.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and perform preventive maintenance on simulation, audio-visual, and related technical equipment.
  • Develop and implement innovative simulation-based tools and instructional solutions to enhance learning experiences.
  • Support simulation-related research projects and data collection activities.
  • Provide daily operational support to ensure the effective functioning of the Simulation Center.
  • Serve as a representative of the UCLA Simulation Center, interacting regularly with faculty, staff, students, healthcare professionals, and the public.

Salary Range: $33.81 – $51.24 Hourly


Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and or equivalent experience and/or training. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) to interact with and work effectively with other faculty, staff, students, and vendors in a positive, helpful, and cooperative working relationship.
  • Skills in operating a PC and Mac with experience in MS Office and the ability to learn additional software programs, including audiovisual and computerized simulation equipment.
  • Physical ability to lift, move, maintain, and set up computer, audio-visual, and simulation lab equipment weighing up to 50 lbs without assistance.
  • Knowledge of operation of standard audio-visual equipment: projectors, microphones, portable screens, media players, etc.
  • Mechanical skills to competently maintain and use equipment in the simulation center. Ability to perform basic wiring and cable installation.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment based on changing priorities and frequent interruptions.
  • Organizational and time management skills to keep materials in order, track various projects, maintain files, and follow through on assignments to completion.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Ability to synthesize information from a variety of sources and problem solve quickly.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to interact with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to express technical information clearly and simply to non-technical persons.
  • Self-motivated and requires little to no supervision.
  • Able to work evenings and weekends. Willingness to perform occasional overtime to meet the teaching schedule and essential duties.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and timelines.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, clinical training, and/or experience in data management, statistics, virtual reality applications, and/or instructional design
