Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Maintenance of supplies for the lab, preparation of media (media and buffer preparation), drawing
blood, processing blood and tissue samples, sample archival, data entry, maintaining lab
cleanliness, maintaining written lab records. The incumbent will prepare whole blood for long term
archival by separating out constituent layers through centrifugation, and store the plasma, and buffy
coat aliquots in -80C freezer. The incumbent will also be responsible for cryopreservation of cells
from various sources such as blood, spleen, etc.

California State Certified Phlebotomy Technician - Required
Ability to maintain human tissue culture
Knowledge of methods used to handle and store human tissues and fluids, including
biohazards, appropriate storage and labeling methods, best ways to ship materials
Ability to teach and assess progress of students learning new lab skills
Ability to maintain accurate laboratory records
Background knowledge of cell biology and techniques.
