Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Standardized Patient (SP) Educator will support all aspects of the SP Program, including but not limited to:

  • Auditioning, orienting, recruiting, training, and monitoring SPs in meeting the needs of courses and testing for the David Geffen School of Medicine (DGSOM) and other UCLA Health entities
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of SP-related courses and curricula as well as evaluating effectiveness and recommending modifications/improvements of same.

In this role, you will interact with faculty, staff, students, and the public on a regular basis as a professional representative of the UCLA Simulation Center.

Salary offers are determined based on various factors including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, and equity. The full annual salary range for this position is $70,900.00 - $145,200.00.


Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required (preferably in health-related field, theater or performing arts) or equivalent experience.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a Standardized Patient. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact and communicate clearly and effectively with SPs, faculty, staff and students.
  • Ability to train actors/ actresses as directed for their roles in the training and testing of students and for faculty development.
  • Ability to assess SP performance and skill in acting techniques to coach for improved performances.
  • Familiarity with the elements involved in the physical examination.
  • Ability to coordinate the logistics of scheduling SPs, rooms, faculty, and students for all events.
  • Ability to learn and operate various audiovisual and data management software such as SimCapture, SPMS, and CareConnect (electronic health records).
  • Self-motivated ability and strong organizational and time management skills to initiate work, maintain materials in order, track multiple courses/projects, and follow through assignments to completion in timely manner and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work evening/weekends when necessary to meet program needs.

Preferred:

  • Experience working as SP Educator, trainer.
